The Whale that has been stranded on a sandbar in Moriches Bay is still alive but still in grave danger.

For earlier story click here.

Now that it has been in grounded for at least 48 hours, it appears that sand is building around the whale making any rescue efforts more potentially difficult.

Waves are breaking in a large circle all around the Whale indicating the water is a foot or less in depth.

When I first arrived it was fairly active, raising the fluke out of the water and splashing but stopped moving before I left around 8:00 a.m.

Some bystanders mentioned there may be an effort at high tide to free the Whale with a barge and other equipment but the N.Y. State D.E.C. officer on watch told me that federal agents from N.O.A.A. are en route and have jurisdiction over any efforts.

As you can see in the photos below, the Seagull in front of the Whale appears to be standing in just inches of water.

I will follow up with video shortly.
