Hurricane Irma churned through the Caribbean last week and broke records by maintaining winds in excess of 185 m.p.h. for over 37 hours.  Normally a Caribbean storm swell wouldn’t show up this far away but the size and duration of  the storm brought some nice waves up and down the east coast this past weekend.

After seeing the waves on the Fire Island and Beyond Surf Cam, I knew I had to get down there and check it out for myself.  The images and video below were taken Saturday, September 9th at Smith Point Beach.
