As the summer slows down we hope to find time to feature some more local photographers.  This week we head to the beautiful North Fork where one of my favorite Long Island Sun Chasers, Jeremy Garretson calls home.  Besides the photos below, check out his website and follow him on Instagram!

I grew up on the Upper West Side on Manhattan and then later moved to Orient, on the East End of Long Island.

I started shooting in 2005 when I purchased my first SLR while attending Stony Brook University. While my focus was in Digital Art, I took some photography classes on the side. Learning on a 35mm and being able to develop my own photos in the darkroom allowed me to grasp the fundamentals of photography before diving into the digital world. My first focus in photography was when a friend introduced me to Urban Exploring (URBEX). This is where the excitement of capturing the best photo possible took hold. Sneaking into abandoned prisons, factories, hospitals, mansions, jails, and asylums became a rush. I couldn’t get enough… Having come very close to getting caught by the police and having some dilapidated floors fall to pieces beneath me, I moved on to shooting safer subjects.

Living on the eastern waters of Long Island allowed me to explore landscape photography and bring me closer to nature. Unable to leave the house without my camera, you can find me constantly patrolling the coast, looking for the next great landscape photograph.
