This morning my dog and I drove on the Smith Point Outer Beach to Moriches Inlet.  The ride down was uneventful with just a Black Scoter and a few Northern Harriers.

The dredging operation between Moriches Bay and the beach near Great Gun appeared to be shut down in anticipation of the storm.

Once we arrived to the inlet we could see seagulls dive-bombing  what turned out to be Atlantic Herring both inside and outside the inlet.  Soon I noticed about 10 Harbor Seals in the mix, followed by Northern Gannet and even a Thick Billed Murre or a Dovikie way out.  I have photographed Northern Gannet diving before but have been close enough to see them capture and swallow fish fairly close up. (See page 5).
