The short lived freeze up of the Great South Bay is in the process of melting so I made sure to hit one of my favorite spots in Bellport to check for ice stacking up. When the ice starts to melt and break up, it can be pushed on shore by wind and tide and yesterday was no exception. I will check again this morning but yesterday it was piling up about three to four feet high. Not as good as last year ( in the photo below) but I will take it.
I covered this extensively last year, click here for some huge ice stacks in the same spot last January.
I took some shots from the ground along with a drone flight over the area yesterday.
