I was in the city for a holiday party last night and squeezed in my first trip to check out the Vessel, a wild 16 story structure with 154 sets of stairs in the middle of the new Hudson Yards development. I knew there was a chance of snow squalls and timed my visit just before sunset.
There was no sign of snow on the way up with clear skies and a bitter wind but as I neared the top the squall appeared, coming from the Northwest and right across the Hudson River. I did my best to get some video and photos of the scene but they don’t do it justice. Within minutes an incredible wall of snow overtook the Vessel with swirling winds and huge wet flakes, reducing visibility to near zero. Soon I was covered in snow and forced to take a long slippery walk back down.
