I checked out Old Inlet last Thursday morning at low tide.  After the recent widening from the Fall storms, sand is starting to build up again on both sides and there are several shoals and small islands forming at the ocean entrance.  There also appears to be a new spit of sand forming on the east backside of the inlet that is getting very close to a new spit building from the west as you can see in the first photo below.  I look forward to the next report from Dr. Charles Flagg for his thoughts.

There is a potential strong coastal low forecast for Sunday into Monday so expect more changes in the short term.
